subject: Will My Taxi Accept A Credit Card? [print this page]

More and more people have taken to paying for everything that they buy with a credit card. This offers them convenience because, instead of having to constantly track their cash payments, they can simply pay for everything with the card and then pay it off in one lump sum at the end of each month. The other advantage to this is that many people collect various types of points or miles with all the money they spend on their cards, so they seek to use them as often as possible. With this being the case, it is no wonder that many people wonder if taxi services are going to allow them to pay for a cab ride using a credit card.

More and more taxis are now accepting credit cards right in the cab as a method of payment. If you want to know if the taxi that you're hailing is going to accept credit cards, it shouldn't be very hard to tell this. Most of the cabs which accept credit cards as a method of payment are going to advertise it clearly on the side of their doors. You should see a Visa or American Express logo displayed if this is a method of payment which is accepted.

Taxis carry mobile payment processing units like those which might be carried by a pizza delivery man. These make it easy for them to accept credit card payments all the time. If you do need to pay by credit card though, when you're requesting your cab you should specify that you need to pay by credit card. That is because even if your cab company does have some cabs which accept credit cards, every vehicle in the fleet will not be necessarily equipped these units. Therefore, you should be sure that you request a vehicle with this ability if you need to pay by credit card.

This brings us back to the final point, which is even if you're traveling in a cab that is going to accept credit cards; you should always have a backup payment method. Although most cabs which accept credit also accept debit, this isn't a good backup, because it is usually the machine which goes down, rendering each method invalid. Therefore, if you're out on the town and plan on using cabs, always have enough back up cash to pay for your cab ride just in case you need it.
