There are many well-preserved Arches in Florence. One of these, is the "Arco di San Pierino". (Other famous and beautiful arches are "Arco dei Peruzzi" and "Arco di Trionfo").
(The tiny Piazza San Pier Maggiore, also called St. Peter is located in the east of Florence, near Piazza Santa Croce. It takes its name from the church of San Pier Maggiore, a very important church, destroyed in 1783 on suspicion of being unsafe.)The Arch of St. Peter is a covered walkway between Piazza San Pier Maggiore and Via dell'Oriuolo in Florence. Not to be confused with the bow of seventeenth visible in the square (they are instead the remains of the ancient church of San Pier Maggiore, which was destroyed in the eighteenth century for alleged problems of static), the arc of St. Peter is instead a covered walkway rather long and much older, built of blocks of pietraforte sight. It is considered a vestige of the old city walls of Florence, made between 1173 and 1175, which here turned in a corner toward the Arno. The lively square with many shops and small restaurants, some of which start just below the arc, making this part of Florence one of the most loved by the Florentines. Until recently it held a market under the arch and between the shops housed under the Arch.
