Biffle's Pocono victory helped keep him in the Chase for the Sprint Cup and boosted morale after team owner Jack Roush's terrifying plane crash last week, and No. 16 now heads into the latter part of NASCAR season with one of the fastest cars in the league.
Biffle dedicated his win at Pocono Raceway to Roush, who is still being treated at the Mayo Clinic after sustaining injuries in a plane crash in Wisconsin last week. Stating "this one's for Jack" as he crossed the finish line at Pocono, Biffle's burnout at the end of Sunday's race helped signify a bright spot for Roush Fenway Racing, as his win was the first of the season for the NASCAR team. Roush's own Carl Edwards also had a great day at the Pennsylvania 500, placing a respectable third and signifying a great day for Roush.
Telling the Indianapolis Star he'd spoken with Jack Roush after Pocono, Edwards said, "He was Jack. Don't mess anything up. Don't wreck. He's been through a lot this past week. He really needed that victory. That's pretty cool. I'm sure he's really hard to handle for all those nurses in the hospital."
Jack Roush can be sure that his drivers are up to speed even if he can't be there on the racetrack with them. Right now, three of Roush's four Cup drivers are in the top 12 on driver standings, with Matt Kenseth currently (as of Aug. 4) in ninth place, Carl Edwards in 10th and Greg Biffle in 11th.
Biffle's win at Pocono was certainly his biggest victory yet this year and it also marked his second Top Five finish in a row. His new car at Indianapolis the prior week helped Biffle snag a third place finish at the Brickyard 400, and its speed was unquestionable at Pocono.
USA Today reported that Biffle spoke about his Ford engine after speeding into Victory Lane at Pocono, with the ecstatic driver stating, "I beat the hell out of the engine today. It shouldn't be running, but it still is. It got the durability test, I can promise you."
Now that he's back in the running for the Chase, Greg Biffle is selling NASCAR tickets like crazy for racing fans who want to see firsthand how the rest of the season plays out. Biffle and Clint Bowyer are on the cusp of the Chase right now and only have a few more races to go before the Chase starts, but if Biffle's recent winnings are any indication of how the rest of the year will run, he will certainly be able to challenge frontrunners like Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon for first place later this fall when the Chase heats up the racing circuit.
For now, Greg Biffle has momentum going into Watkins Glen, and he'll attempt two wins in a row on Aug. 8 as the Roush Fenway Racing star gears up for another big race.
