subject: Human Hair Wigs Vs. Other Wigs [print this page] Human hair wigs aren't always the cheapest on the market, but that's for good reason. By and large, they tend to beat out all other types of wigs in pretty much every single category, and for those that want good, high quality wigs, you'll rarely find someone who goes with anything besides real human hair. Now, if we take a moment to compare real human hair wigs to all the other types of wigs out there, here's what we find.
Synthetic Hair
The technology for synthetic hair has come a long, long way, and it still looks like doll hair. If you want to look like a Barbie doll, that's one thing, but most women actually want to look like real people, so rather than using that doll stuff, why not actually use a real human hair wig to complete your look and make it look, you know, like real human hair? It's just ridiculous to try and pass that plastic looking stuff off as the real deal.
Animal Hair
Animal hair looks a little better, but not quite like the real stuff. Horse hair is just a little too thick to pass for the real thing. The funny thing about horse hair wigs is that they were first used as a substitute back in the Victorian days, when it occurred to people that they couldn't keep making these six, seven foot long wigs out of human hair. They were running out of hair, so to speak, and this was long before minoxidil would've solved that.
Machine Made Wigs
Machine made wigs can actually be made from any material. The machine making process simply involves the fitting and shaping of the wig, not what the hair itself is made out of. Machine processing just makes it easier and cheaper to produce quality wigs of the right length and style that actually fit. Regardless, if you're getting a machine made wig, you'll probably want to make sure that its human hair to ensure that you get the look and feel you're after.
Synthetic is great for halloween parties, horse hair is okay if you like that sort of look, but if you want a wig that you can't tell apart from real hair, then use REAL hair. There really is no substitute if you're hoping to actually pass it off as your own hair, or even if you're going for a more artificial, glamorous look, but don't want to look like someone in a costume, either.
