This latest exhibition could be identified as further progress in the German-Sierra Leonean relationship which has spanned more than four decades. Accurate information about Sierra Leone is hard to come by in the towns and cities of Europe. In his opening remarks, the Mayor of Kirchlengen, Rudiger Meier spoke about the German people's readiness to help countries that are in dire need to achieve their developmental aspirations.

The Mayor pledged his city's avowed goal to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Sierra Leone. He reiterated the German government's determination to help developing countries enhance their socio-economic wellbeing and assured all that the people in Kirchlengen wholeheartedly support the exhibition hosted in their town. Sierra Leone's Ambassador in Germany, Jonkopie Stevens thanked the Mayor for making him a Freeman in the Municipality of Kirchlengen.

"The investment climate has never been better and the government has created an enabling environment for genuine investors. It will therefore be highly appreciative to spread the news that Sierra Leone is awake, alive and ready for business," Stevens declared.

While other African countries have ready access to the European tourism market, Sierra Leone continues to struggle to attract foreign tourists and the German YMCA sponsored exhibition will probably create a new front to attract Germans and other European tourists. However, there is concern that the price of hotels in Sierra Leone is high and that if the country is to attract more tourists, something has to be done towards the cost of hotel accommodation
