subject: Decorating methods: old or new? [print this page]

You probably wouldn't think it but even decorating supplies undergo revolutions, upgrades and improvements. When most of us think about painting and decorating we are immediately drawn towards the traditional decorating tools such as paint brushes and paint rollers. However, when you look at all the other decorating tools available then you quickly see that there are more decorating options available.

When considering new decorating tools it's important to look at whether or not they are better than the more traditional methods of paint brushes and rollers. This could all be down to personal taste but there are a few pros and cons of each painting method that require some consideration before making a purchase.

Newer methods such as the paint pod appear to initially be a good idea. They distribute paint very quickly and there is certainly less effort involved than using either a roller or paint brush. The negatives behind these devices are that the device itself is initially expensive and the pods of paint can be more expensive than regular tins of paint.

When it comes to paint rollers and paint brushes such as those available here at Trade1st, the pros and cons are obvious. The pros are that the equipment is quite cheap, a roller and tray can typically be purchased for less than five pounds. Paint for use with rollers and brushes can be quite cheap; you can usually paint a small room for less than ten pounds. Rollers can also provide a good finish and in a variety of textures. The only real negative aspect of brushes and rollers is the amount of work involved. Painting large areas in one go can be quite tough on the arms however, when spread out over a decent time period, using rollers and brushes will provide good results for only a small investment.
