subject: The Price You Pay For Your Parcel Is All Down To The Timing [print this page]

Sending a parcel can be costly, as many people know youre normally charged based on the size and weight of your parcel, if you have a heavy item to send then there is a good chance that you will have to pay more money at the post office for your parcel to be sent and in some cases you may find that your parcel is too heavy or cumbersome to be accepted by the post office and so youd need to enquire about couriers and dedicated shipping services instead.

But even if your parcel falls within the range of weight and size that the Royal Mail will accept you could need to spend more for another reason, timing. A lot of parcels being sent can be time sensitive whether they are for important business deals or gifts for a loved ones birthday you will want your parcel to arrive as soon as possible or by a certain date and this is where your parcels could end up costing more.

This is mainly down to how urgently we need to send our parcels, typically we will send a parcel as soon as we can if it needs to arrive by a certain time and the reward for doing this is having much more choice over what services you can choose from. The earlier you send your parcels means that there are services that may take longer than a next day delivery but since you have sent your parcel ahead of time you should be able to choose one of these less costly services and the parcel will still arrive on time.

The later you leave a delivery means that your range of suitable services will begin to dwindle away to the more expensive options. There are situations that can crop up such as a last minute delivery that needs to be made where you are unable to choose a cheaper service or perhaps you forgot that there was a relatives birthday that you need to send a parcel for. With these services available it is reassuring as your parcels can be delivered on time without them being late even if you are sending them last minute.

As well as making sure your parcels get sent off early enough there are other concerns that you need to be careful about such as ensuring your parcel is properly packaged and labelled so that there are no chances it could be returned to you. Likewise you should make sure that any paperwork such as international customs forms are filled out correctly as these are often a cause of any holdups that can delay your delivery from progressing.
