subject: Dive Into The Red Sea [print this page]

The Red Sea has long been one of the best diving spots in the world; the narrow, sheltered shores are home to a vast amount of sea life just waiting to be explored. The Red Sea region offers over 200 species of coral and over 110 species of fish. The rich biodiversity of the area has been recognised by the Egyptian government who in turn set up the Ras Mohammed Park in 1983 to protect the Red Sea from over development.

Red Sea Diving holidays are extremely popular with European divers as it is the world's most northerly tropical sea with hundreds of prime diving sports. With a diverse landscape and a warm water temperature it is easy to see why so many people flock to the Red Sea. The sea is surrounded by several North African and Middle Eastern countries however the most common country that people head to for diving holidays is Egypt.

The diving holidays cater for both beginners and experienced divers, so whether you have been diving for years or simply want to take you first step into the activity. The Red Sea is home to many fascinating wreck sites that offer and invaluable glimpse into marine history. Diving to explore these wrecks will open your eyes to the power of nature and how it can take a man made material and turn it into a habitat. A prime example of this is the 'Ghiannis D', a Greek boat that sunk in the Red Sea in 1983 after colliding with another wreck. During a dive, you can swim through the deserted hull and come face to face with the large moray eels, batfish and butterfly fish. The 'Thistlegorm' is a British site that was sunk in 1941, diving down to explore the vessels you can see the original cargo of the ship that is still preserved.

Anyone wanting to experience a diving holiday can do so whilst staying in the luxury of one of Egypt's hotels. The Sharm el Sheikh resort has many five star accommodation options along with several cheaper alternatives for budget travellers. Another option is a live-aboard diving holiday where you can maximise your time spent diving by staying on board on of the high quality ships.

With such a wide range of diving opportunities, it's little wonder that the Red Sea continues to be one of the most popular diving spots in the world.
