subject: Flash floods in the Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir: Appeal for Support [print this page] Abrupt floods inside the Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir has damaged estimated 10,000 male, female and children. More than 185 people lost their lives and nearly 700 lives are lost. The existing town of Leh has become the worst affected. Flood sufferers are fighting to access to food, water and instant shelter. Children and some women have been the worst affected. With winter on its way and temperature likely to dip to freezing degrees, the problem of temporary shelter is emerging as one particular most priority for the affected population.
The current problem:
1.A minimum of 10,000 men, women and children impacted
2.More than 185 lives lost and more than 700 lives lost
3.Thousands are homeless .Many don't have any having access to safe normal water and proper sanitation.
Oxfam India trying to reach to the masses :
9 villages around Leh town 2000 households inside the affected areas get the ways to access safe drinking water, and proper sanitation.
2000 households with winterized accommodations gearing them up for cold winters.Clean-up of debris packed towns to bring normalcy
Provide shelter support for 2000 affected families.
What need's to be done?
Nearly 2.7 crores is necessary to service the needy and the ones who are losing heart and provide them with safe water, assist them with shelter and sanitation.
