subject: Tricks And Tips For The Best Baby Skin Care [print this page]

There is more to baby skin care than most new parents realize. Proper infant skin care means caring for all of a baby's skin (aka the whole body). Newborn babies are very susceptible to skin conditions because it takes time for the skin to get used to life outside of the womb. Proper baby skin care means that parents must make good decisions continually throughout the day. Everything from the soap you use in the bath to the clothes you put him into will affect the condition of your baby's skin. Don't stress out too much though: practicing good baby skin care does not have to be intricate or hard. It can be very easy if you know how to use your common sense. This article will teach you what to do while you work on putting together a regular skin care routine for your baby.

Your baby's bath does not need to be lengthy. In fact, if your baby's bath is too long it can do more harm to your baby than good! Your baby's bath only needs to be a few minutes long--only enough time to get wet, get soapy and get rinsed. After your baby's bath is done apply a tiny bit of moisturizer or baby lotion and then towel your baby dry with a soft towel. Take care to dry your baby completely or the left over moisture could lead to rashes or yeast infections. Remember how rolly and polly a newborn baby's skin is! Make sure you use a soft towel!

You want to wash your baby's clothing, new toys and bedding in gentle detergent that is hypoallergenic. The wash will help get rid of things that could irritate your baby's skin. We do this even as adults because it just makes good sense to do so. Give it some thought: do you wear new clothes before you wash them? No!

A baby's skin does not get very dirty so you don't need to use very much soap to keep him clean. Don't use more than a few drops of soap. More than that could dry out your baby's skin and make it vulnerable to skin problems. Do not ever directly apply the soap to the skin of your baby. Use a soft washcloth to build up a soapy lather which will be perfectly effective in cleaning your baby and is easy to rinse off. It will be easier for you, especially during the first few months of your baby's life, to clean one part of your baby completely at a time. Handling a soapy baby can be very scary!

It is easy to get intimidated by baby skin care when you are a new parent. You might find yourself fighting the urge to bathe and clean the baby too often. Taking care of your skin, whether or not you want to believe this, does not have to be difficult. It won't take you long to learn that keeping your baby clean and caring for her skin (or his skin) is little more than keeping the baby out of dirt and practicing some common sense. Not to worry: you'll learn eventually!
