subject: Another Kind Of Water Vessels: Yachts [print this page]

Yachts have been used by the Dutch army even in the olden days. These light and agile water vessels were used to chase off the pirates. Today they are used for luxury and recreation.

The prices of the yacht depend on their size and the kind of work required out of them. Their length starts from a little under 5 meters and goes over 100 meters. The larger yachts can be as big as 150 metres.

The yachts were made of steel and mainly wood in the olden times. These days however the fibreglass and aluminium are in for their construction. We can find wood but that is usually in the yachts which are in the collection of hobbyists.

Yachts can be categorized as sail yachts and the motor yachts. Sail yachts are green and economical. They can be further subcategorised as: the day sailing yachts, the weekender yachts, the cruising yachts, the racing yachts and the luxury yachts.

The day sailing yachts are small because they have no cabins and cannot be used for more than one or two hours. The weekender yachts are slightly bigger than day sailing because they have a small cabin and can be used to undertake a journey that can last 2 or 3 days. The cruising yachts are much bigger and therefore more complex, having many cabins below the deck.

The racing yachts are light and can attain a speed of 35 knots. They have a tall mast which increases their sail area. The luxury yachts on the other hand come with the convenience any boat can offer: from a TV to an air-conditioning system.

The motor yachts also fit in the same categories as above depending on the size and the kind of work required out of them. The day cruiser yachts have no cabin and only a small fridge whereas the weekend cruiser yacht may have one o two cabins. The cruising yachts have enough facilities to last for many days.

The other kind of motor yacht is the sport fishing yacht which comes with the entire fishing equipment one needs. Last but not the least the luxury yachts are more like cruising with many other facilities. The motor boats are expensive because they run on diesel.
