subject: Tiny Things With Great Volumes [print this page] Getting Bigger, while Getting Smaller Getting Bigger, while Getting Smaller
Not many people today know that the first computers were taking lots of space. One computer could take a whole room and it didnt have those modern advantages and memory capacities that are now widely available today. Of course, people were working hard on these things throughout all these times that the technical progress was moving on, and their success is unbelievable!
Now we have such things as pocket PCs that use Intel Linear Flash, which faster speed of work and writing or reading. This is something completely different from what the humanity had in the beginning of the computer era. Even our desktop computers and laptops comprise much more features and possibilities than the first computers did. Moreover, the computers we have now are much more advanced, as compared to those we had even ten years ago. The progress is always moving on, and sometimes its even hard to keep up with it. We are often amazed about the thing that our parents and grandparents sometimes cant understand how to use modern computers, but it is actually understandable. What they have seen, when the computer was first brought up, doesnt fit to the modern comprehension of computer and its possibilities.
Look at todays industrial grade SD memory cards these small things that sometimes can barely be compared to someones thumb nail are now able to provide extreme speeds and capacities. At the moment industrial grade SD memory cards can provide up to 45 Mb/s of write/read speed and up to 2 TB capacities. Thats unbelievable! Thats amazing! Such a small thing can do something like this? How is this possible? Manufacturers and developers that have worked on this and other types of computer flash memory have put their best efforts and thoughts to make something like this. These memory cards can be used in such small devices, like photo cameras, MP4 and MP3 players, cell phones, PDAs, portable PCs, etc. Even the things, like PATA SSD and IDE SSD, which now have almost substituted HDDs, provide much faster speeds and larger capacities than their forerunners did.
This is still not the end of this ongoing progress. We will see much greater things to come and amaze us with their new advantages and possibilities. Its hard to imagine what those new devices and PC components will look like and what advantages they will have. However, the only thing we, as average consumers, can do is to keep pace with this insane progress.
