subject: About Dna Storage [print this page]

The decision of several states to found DNA databases has been the subject of many polemics during the last decades. Some people do not agree with DNA collections because they consider them a form of violation of the individuals intimacy. Other persons have managed to see the positive side of this practice knowing that DNA databases will enable police to better supervise evildoers.

In the medical field, the situation is a lot different. Patients encourage the use of DNA samples to determine the medical history of a person and to establish the genetic diseases that patients may develop during their lifetime. DNA banks are also useful for those persons who would like to leave samples in order to settle any possible cases of claimed paternity.

There are two methods that clinics may use in order to collect the DNA. Some clinics prefer the painless method that is, rubbing a swab on the inside of the donors mouth, while others resort to blood tests in order to identify the DNA of a person.

The samples will then be preserved in the best conditions as the latest technology ensures the perfect room temperature. It is important that you provide the medical staff with all the information they need to know about you in order to avoid any confusion in the future.

The DNA of a person can be identified in less than one day thanks to the modern technologies used by bio-anking institutions that have made incredible progress rin the past years. DNA samples can be stored up to 50 years without any alterations to take place in their composition given the new automated storage systems and sample management tools.

People will eventually acknowledge the usefulness of these institutions and they will start using them in large numbers. Government institutions have already realized this, therefore they have decided to collect DNA samples from all the soldiers and military staffs working abroad. They believe DNA databases are very useful because they enable them to identify and supervise their soldiers.
