subject: Ways to use a blow dryer to get smooth and silky hair [print this page]

Using a blow dryer can be less damaging to your hair than using a flat iron because you are not applying plates directly onto your hair, nor is the temperature as hot since you can adjust the settings, from cool to high. Using a blow dryer will give you hair that looks bouncy yet is smooth and silky. Here are the top techniques to use a blow dryer to get soft, silky and smooth hair.

Paddle Brush: Using a paddle brush to brush through your hair whilst blow drying will enable your hair to become very straight and smooth, using long strokes to brush the length of your hair entirely, while following it with the hair dryer again across the length of your hair.

Round barrel brush: Using a round barrel brush will enable you to get volume and waves into your hair. You can use the round barrel brush on the underside of your hair at the roots while holding the hair dryer there to make your hair full of life. You can also roll your hair in the round barrel brush and apply the heat of the hair dryer to your hair to make it wavy.

How to use the hair dryer: To get the desired look that you want to achieve, you have to use the hair dryer properly. Always start from the roots of the hair and work your way down slowly using any brush to create a particular effect. It may seem strenuous at first, but concentrate on getting at the roots with the brush that you are using, this will include your hand over your head as you need the blow dryer to get at your roots. After, work your way down.

Heat protection spray: Always use a heat protection spray when using heat on your hair as you will damage your hair and cause split ends. Depending on what product it is, use the recommended amount, you do not want too much or too little on your hair.

Oil Spray: Fill a bottle with oil spray, use oils such as grape seed and sweet almond oil as these are extremely light and odourless yet still will repair and add shine and softness to the hair. After spraying your hair with a heat product, use a spray or to just add that softness and shine to the hair.

Sections: Always comb your hair into sections when blow drying, smaller sections are better so you can efficiently blow dry your hair the best. Use clips to put your hair into place before you blow dry and also after you blow dry your hair.

In addition, do not use a hair dryer when your hair is extremely wet. You want the products to soak into your hair and either protect it or repair it so make sure that your hair is damp.
