subject: Everyone Is Using Affirmations! Are You Using Them To Your Advantage Or Holding Yourself Back [print this page] If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.
- Henry Ford
Your may think that only a certain kind of individual uses affirmations, but the truth is that everyone uses affirmations. All humans continually repeat beliefs and ideas about themselves and their circumstances throughout the day. The difference is that people who successfully use positive affirmations do so in a conscious, deliberate manner to activate positive change, success and healing.
Everyone else is repeating largely negative affirmations to themselves. And, most times they are not even aware that they are doing it. Limiting beliefs, derogatory thoughts, self-rejection, and a downright negative attitude about the world around them does nothing but invite more limited experiences, negative surroundings, and conflict.
These negative affirmations that operate more on auto pilot can include statements like "I'm so stupid, what a klutz, I hate my car it keeps breaking down, I hate my car it burns so much gas, I hate this rain it messes up my hair." All of these types of statements lower your energetic vibration, and keep you away from the good things you want to bring into your life. How can you stop this type of negative self talk, and recreate positive self talk that can support your dreams and desires?
1.Become aware. Start listening to the language you use - what you say out loud and what you say silently to yourself. Stop yourself throughout the day and reflect on what you have just been saying or thinking. What has been your dominant point of view or your dominant vibration? Are you now aware that you use an excessive amount of negative language? Before long you will say something or think something and immediately be drawn to how negative it is. Previously you didn't think twice about such statements and now you are acutely aware of them and how they make you feel.
2.Turn statements around. As you become aware, you can gently turn the statements around little by little. It often works to find something you can appreciate in everything you encounter. "It's raining, that is so good for the plants, trees and wildlife; they need this rain. I can breathe in the goodness as it falls right outside my window. I can hear the pitter patter on the roof. What a lovely sound."
3.Practice deliberate use of affirmations. You can now identify areas of your life where you want to deliberately create delightful outcomes. And, since you have become more aware of the power of your thoughts and your words, you can imagine yourself achieving great results with the help of carefully worded affirmations.
Many great people have achieved success with affirmations. You do not have to look very far to find quotes from some of the most celebrated people in history; quotes that express and illustrate the successful use of positive thinking and positive affirmations. These include Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr., Albert Einstein, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Og Mandino, Buddha, Gandhi, Jesus, and many others.
In addition, many notable present day success stories have shared their processes for using affirmations and positive visualization to achieve their goals. These include Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert, Jim Carrey, Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, and scores of professional athletes who added this type of daily practice to their comprehensive physical training program.
