The ability to utilize an unlimited call phone service has existed far longer than most people realize. The capacity to transmit phone calls over the internet came into existence in 1973. The only reason it never caught on was the technology was ahead of the delivery method.

The internet at the time was limited in usage. Very few individuals had access to it and those who did were relegated to the usage of dial-up modems. Due to the bandwidth requirements and frequent disconnection issues VoIP capacity was all but forgotten until 1995 when a company named Vocaltec came onto the scene in an attempt at resurrecting this technology.

While the company enjoyed moderate levels of success in this venture the old issues still existed. The internet was not as widely used by the public and those who did utilize it did so through dial-up connections. Bandwidth remained an issue for the foreseeable future.

Unlimited call phone services would have continued to stall and lag behind the traditional phone services if not for the advent of easier access to broadband services. With the higher level of bandwidth and companies such as Cisco and Lucent manufacturing ever better systems and programming for VoIP technology the digital phone services began to appear throughout the world at a much quicker rate.

VoIP systems translate voice input into digital audio and transfer it through the internet there is little cost involved compared to traditional methods. Some companies began to gain prominence and even replaced the traditional phone companies in some areas.

Today the VoIP industry is a multi-billion dollar a year business. Due to the cost-effective and efficient nature of the technological world market today the unlimited call phone services are here to stay and will continue to grow in usage well into the future.
