subject: Top sights to view when you are next in the exciting culture of Manchester [print this page] Manchester has a rich history of culture and development; with an important musical history and thriving LGBT community. Even though Manchester might not be as well-known or recognisable as London or other large cities, there are a plethora of attractions within a strong economy and beautiful surroundings.
I have visited Manchester many times, sometimes just for a day out and always find suitable ways to entertain myself for the day. These are some of my favourite attractions to see in this city of opportunity.
5. Art Galleries, such as The Whitworth: Costing nothing to enter, this gallery has a collection of over 55,000 items, as well as a number of unique exhibits. A short while ago, I visited this particular gallery to view and study an exhibit called 'Kinderzimmer', created by Gregor Schneider, which was an expansive area that had no lighting within, except for a small poorly lit room in the distance that contained a dirty-looking mattress. This was a very weird but interesting experience.
4. For museum-lovers, the Manchester Museum: Run by the Manchester University, it will not cost you anything to gain entrance and was recently publicly voted as one of the best university museums in England. It contains about 6 million items for viewing, such as a selection of animal bones, models, dinosaur bones and an array of items from different periods. An unforgettable museum experience!
3. Music venues, such as the Manchester Academy: If you are into music and new bands, then you will absolutely love Manchester Academy. The thriving music scene has played an integral role in making Manchester the cultural leader and the presence of the Manchester Academy reinforces this strongly. With upcoming bands scheduled to play, such as Mark Ronson, Jimmy Eat World, Ash and Alexisonfire, this is the ideal arena for attending gigs and the atmosphere is always electric.
2. Shopping Mall: Shoppers from across the UK are drawn to the Trafford Centre and the amazing shops within. This shopping centre presents a fantastic opportunity for an average worker from a Manchester office. With an impressively large cinema screen, an excellent food court and premium shops (as well as independent retailers), this centre is a haven for any shopper looking for the perfect experience.
1. Beautiful greenery. Even though many might think that Manchester is a solely industrial region, it boasts lush greenery, fantastic landscapes and some of the most attractive parks in the UK. One of the city's best is Heaton Park; featuring an animal centre, playgrounds and three cafes, among other sights, this presents the perfect opportunity to relax in fresh air. You can also find an array of other parks that are worth a visit, such as Riverside and Wythenshawe Park.
Whilst, without prior knowledge, it can be even more fun to explore Manchester and finding your own favourites, these few tips can help to ensure that you have a highly enjoyable experience.
