Most houses use different floorings for each sector or each room. What may be suitable for the bathroom may not be good for the living room and what was chosen for the kitchen is not right for the bedroom. Traffic to the room is one factor for considering the type of flooring, sometimes the use of the room is the basis for the flooring. And budget constraint is one big factor in choice of fooring for different parts of a house.
Bedroom
This is a room where traffic is los and there are threee types of flooring usually used for this room. These are the carpet, the hardwood or laminate flooring. Carpet exudes warmth inside the room, especially when it is air-conditioned. It is softer to the feet. But one disadvantage of carpet is maintenance. It is difficult to clean especially when mildew, dirt, stains and moisture start to build-up. Hardwood is cooler and easier to maintain and clean. However, this is more expensive than carpet. This type of flooring is more durable and is easy to refinish when needed. The laminate are just like the wood floors except that these are inexpensive compared to its wood countertop. But then, any damage to the laminated flooring is hard to repair.
Bathroom
This part of the house is wet most of the time so moisture factor is one important determinant of flooring type. Tile and marble are the options. Both are the types of bathroom flooring that are most preferred. They are both durable and are endowed with natural beauty. These are easy to clean so build-up of mildew can be avoided. Tiles however, are easier to install and has more variation in design.
Kitchen
There are more options for the kitchen - laminate, vinyl, hardwood and tile. Usually, the laminate and hardwood are chosen when they either compliment or contrast the kitchen cabinets. For budget constraints, the homeowner may opt for vinyl which is the most cost effective. Tile is also a good option - beautiful, natural and durable. Its price range is comparable to hardwood floors.
Living room and dining room
In most houses, these two rooms have the same flooring. The choice for the same flooring springs from the fact that dining and living rooms are adjacent to each other. Most preferred are hardwood, laminate and vinyl. This is also traffic area so the more durable types are installed. Ease of maintenance is very important.
Laundry, al fresco, foyers
These house areas have more traffic. And as such the floorings must be very durable and resistant to water as well as stain and scratches. Ease in cleaning should also be a feature of the flooring in these areas. Vinyl and tiles are the most commonly used flooring materials.
Flooring adds to the aesthetic appeal of a house. However, functionality must also be considered. Thus, different rooms have different types of flooring.
