Aricept (Donepezil) is a drug used for the treatment of Alzheimer disease. It is group of drugs known as cholinesterase inhibitors which has cognex (tacrine). Alzheimer disease is caused due to the deficiency of the chemical which is maintained by the nerves of the brain to connect with each other. Aricept inhibits acetyl-cholinesterase is an enzyme which damage one of the neurotransmitter or acetylcholine. Aricept drug may cause digestive disorder such as fecal while taking out the body waste, bleeding of intestine, swelling, pain at the epigastric region, eructation, inflammation at the intestine, increase in the appetite, flatulence, tissue abscess, formation of gallstones in the gallbladder pain at the large intestine or small intestine, edema at the tongue, rhetoric, inflammation of the mucous membrane, pain at the varicose veins, excessive thirsty, jaundice and black stools (melena). The patient may have disorder in Endocrine glands such as diabetes, mellitus and enlargement of the thyroid gland. Beside this, the patient may suffer from disorder such as wrong concept of an object, to fear, or get nervous, easily gets annoyed, unusual tingling and violent behavior.
What precautions do I need to follow while using Aricept?
If you have severe liver disease, your healthcare provider may choose to start you on a lower dose of Aricept Alzheimer drug and monitor your condition more closely.
