Actifed is anti-histamine and anti-nasal congestion medication. Actifed cold medication is used for treating cold and allergy. This medication reduces the chemical histamine which is naturally produced by the body. The excess production of histamine can cause sneezing, itchy feeling, watery eye and runny nose. This medication also relives the contraction of blood vessel that cause nasal congestion or stuffy nose.
How should I take this medication?
This medication should be used as per the dosage and the frequency suggested by the doctor. As this medicine is used to treat multiple disorders, do not use it without consulting your doctor first. The patient should go for regular check up in order to see whether or not the medication is performing well. Do not skip the medication, make a regular timing for taking this medicine and if you forget to take this medication, take Actifed medication immediately if there is time for your regular schedule. Do not over dose it, do not take more than 6 tablets in 24 hours. This medication should not be used in the patient who is below 12 years of age. It can be life threatening if it is mistreated in the younger children. Contact your doctor if the symptoms do not improve after 7 days of the application of this medication. Keep this medication in cool and dry place, away from heat, light and moisture.
What are the possible side effects of using this drug?
This medication may cause allergic reaction such as such as hives, breathing problem, swollen tongue or throat, swollen face or lips, hives,searing or cracking skin and burning sensation. Actifed may show side effects such as increase or decrease of heart-beat rate, the patient may feel giddy, unsteady, loss of consciousness, formation of perception which that does not exist in reality and quivering and shudder. This medication may also induce heart-burn, motion sickness, feel like vomiting, diarrhea, may not feel hungry, dryness of nose or mouth, makes to sleep , dizzy, loss of strength, head pain, unclear vision, pain while urinating and insomnia.
What precautions do I need to follow while using Actifed?
Before using Actifed allergy medication make sure to let the doctor know if you are using any prescribed or un-prescribed, herbal or any supplementary diet as there is a need of adjustment in the dosage. Patient should be careful while performing work that requires alertness or concentration as this medication may divert the power of thinking and concentration. Stop taking alcohol if you are using this medication for the alcohol may adversely effetely and increase the side effect that is cause by this medication. Make sure you also let your doctor know if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or a lactating mother.
