subject: Dream Big: Be An Entrepreneur. [print this page]

Many people believe that becoming rich does not start with getting a good job and earning a high salary. As long as you are an employee, you are working hard for the company and earning for the company. You cant find wealth by simply having a high paying job but by having your own business. By being your own boss, dreaming big and becoming an entrepreneur.

But what is an entrepreneur anyway? The word entrepreneur came from two French words "entre" (to enter) and "prendre" (to take), and in a general sense applies to any person starting a new project or trying a new opportunity. An entrepreneur is a person who accepts financial risks and undertakings to create a new product or business.

There are certain characteristics that an entrepreneur should have so as to become successful in his ventures. These characteristics includes spontaneous creativity, the ability and willingness to make decisions in the absence of solid data, and a generally risk-taking personality. It is natural for them to become highly independent and creative so that they can create new businesses out of the conventional ones.

If you are planning to start a business, it is important to keep in mind that it should be based on your own passion and vision. Working for a business you are interested in will not only lesson the percentage of failure but will also make the whole thing easier for you. Try to find new business ideas by trying to solve old problems in new ways.

One example of an entrepreneur who dreamed big and now became one of the most innovative entrepreneurs in South Africa is Jacques Duyver. At a very early age, he started to venture in his own business through Itec which offers multi-functional devices for office automation. After that, he was able to enterprise in the financial market through Boost Private Equity. He was also able to expand his businesses form South Africa to United Kingdom through the Itec UK and Fundi London, an interior design firm.
