Ranthambhore is one national park where tiger sighting is almost guaranteed. The tigers have grown so accustomed to the presence of humans, that they even stalk and kill their prey in full view of the visitors. The views in late evening are simply spectacular as the tigers and other wildlife can be seen in the ruins that are scattered all over the park. Other wildlife includes wild bore, deer, bears, hyenas, birds, wild cats and snakes.

There is not much scope for shopping in Ranthambore.

All the hotels in Ranthambhore have restaurants, and most serve local Rajasthani cuisine.There are also plenty of budget restaurants in the Sawai Madhopur bazaar if you want a break from the fare at your resort.

Activities

You can book a jungle safari with the forest department or with the resort you would be staying at. The safaris last three hours and are conducted twice a day early morning and evening. Since traffic is regulated inside the park, only a specific number of vehicles are allowed on any one of the four

trails at any given time. The park offers excellent opportunities to a photographer to shoot the varied wildlife.

Sights

Your visit to the Ranthambore National Park would be incomplete with out a visit to the Ranthambore Fort which is within its premises.The fort was built around 8th century by the Chauhans. Padam Talao, Rajbagh Talao and Malik Talao are three major lakes within the Ranthambore

National Park and attract a huge number of animals and birds. Jogi Mahal on the banks of Padam Talao. Tiger sighting are more likely at Rajbagh Talao while Malik Talao is home to a large number of crocodiles. Take a jeep safari to explore every nook and corner of the park. While most people come here with the hope of spotting a tiger other animals within the park make the trip here worthwhile too. You are likely to spot Leopards, Striped Hyenas, Indian Wild Boar, Chinkara, Jackals, Indian Flying Foxes, Indian Foxes, Sloth bears, Sambar deer, Chital, Nilgai, Macaques, Small Indian Civets and Common mongoose. Different kinds of reptiles are found here too. Prominent amongst these are Snub Nosed Marsh Crocodiles, Desert Monitor Lizards, Tortoise, Banded Kraits, Cobras, Common Kraits, Ganga Soft Shelled Turtles, Indian Pythons, North Indian Flap Shelled Turtles, Rat Snakes, Russel''s Vipers, Saw-scaled Vipers and the Indian Chamaeleon.

How to get there by Air

Jaipur at 145-kms is the nearest airport from Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary. From here you can hire a taxi or take a bus for the reat of your journey.

How to get there by Rail

Ranthambore National Park is around 11-kms away from Sawai Madhopur railway station that lies on the Delhi to Bombay trunk route.

How to get there by Bus

A good network of buses connect Sawai Madhopur, the nearest town from Ranthambore to all the major cities within the state of Rajasthan. You can also hire a taxi to take you to Ranthambore.

Best time to Visit

Although the park remains opens from October through to June, the best time to visit is during the winters-from November to February. Tigers are frequently sighted in the park but sightings are almost guaranteed during March and April.
