Blender is a freeware 3D models modeling and animation program that many people use instead of the pricey alternatives like Maya or Cinema 4d. However, the modeling tools in Blender are advanced and extremely complex. For this reason, some people choose to do their modeling in a simpler modeling application like the freeware Google SketchUp. They can then rig and texture their models using Blender's more sophisticated functions. But to use your SketchUp 3d models in Blender, you first have to convert it to a format that Blender can import. Fortunately, this is fairly easy to do.

Instructions.

Open SketchUp. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." Locate a model file that you want to convert for Blender and open it.

Remove anything from the scene that you do not want to export, since SketchUp exports everything in the scene.

Select "File" from the menu and choose "Export." From the options, choose "3D Models." The save dialog will appear.

Name the file and change the "File Type" to the Google Earth Format (.kmz). Click "Export." Close SketchUp.

Go to the file where you saved it and right-click on it. From the options, choose "Rename." Change the file extension from .kmz to .zip. Right-click on the renamed file and choose "Extract here."

Open Blender. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Import." From the options, choose "COLLADA 1.4." In the dialog that appears, locate your find and click "Import dae." Your model will now be imported.
