subject: Survival Techniques In An Era Of Crisis [print this page]

It has not been 100 years since the war that shook the whole world and yet people are behaving like it never happened. While old timers still talk about the world war and their tales of survival, the people who never understood what war is like tend to disregard the signs of conflict that are all around us. The terrorist blasts that occurred in the past decade should tell us just how close we are to dealing with the same scenario.

If it is not war, it's a natural calamity. Either way, the devastating effects are the same. If you agree that preparedness is the best tactic for surviving a disaster or a terrorist attack, read on to discover how you can get ready for any disaster scenario...

Preparedness Techniques You Need to Learn

1. Preparing a Survival Bag

In survival scenarios, you need to evacuate to a safer location as quickly as you can. But you can't leave the home empty handed. You have to carry flashlights, food, water, sleeping bags and other gear you need to survive for a few days or until the calamity blows over. Bail out bags, emergency kits and survival kits all refer to that small backpack you can grab when there is a call for a mass departure. There are some of these bags that are marketed pre-packed in shops, but I suggest creating one yourself. Every member of the family must be assigned a kit to grab when it's time to leave.

Construct a survival bag to meet a family member's needs. Smaller sleeping bags and tarpaulins can be added into the kits of young adults, while grown-ups can carry the bags filled with bottled water and the defensive weapons like a shot gun, a stun gun, a baseball bat, or any other type of homemade weapon (like zip guns and pipe guns).

2. Combat Preparation

During a crisis, individuals are at their wit's end. This means a lot of thieves will turn up to take advantage of the situation. They may be after your food and water supplies, your cash, your automobile, or the things you are leaving behind. there is no telling when these individuals will try to slip inside your residence while you are evacuating. It's suggested to get some combat training so that you can defend yourself and your family should an event like this transpire.

3. Hunting Skills

Being stuck in a remote place with diminishing stores can be a stressful experience. Staying alive may oblige you to look for clean water sources in the vicinity and build your own shelter. You may even have to start a fire without safety matches, and even munch whatever edible fruit (or insect) you can get hold of to keep you from starving. In these occasions, foraging skills will come in handy.

Those who have guns may hunt for food in a nearby thicket or in the forest. If you don't own a gun but you need to hunt for foodstuff, you can use your survival equipment to create improvised weapons or booby traps. Some examples of homemade weapons are zip guns, pipe guns and crossbows.

In disaster scenarios, you do not know what to expect. there is nobody around who can tell you how long you will need to wait for relief; or how long before your measly stock of food, water and firewood runs out. there's no telling if conflict has already started someplace else and whether you can still go back to your home town. But what we can do at this time is do our best to study how to endure during such times. Let's not forget the lessons of past wars and crisis situations.
