subject: Why Choose A Color Wireless Printer [print this page]

No matter which type of color wireless printer you are picking, whether a color laser printer, an inkjet printer or a photo printer, you should consider some of the issues discussed in this article.

Printers are an important part of the office equipment of most businesses. In the not too distant past, typewriters were used to create printed documents and typing mistakes would result in the entire document needing to be re-created from scratch. In contrast, the modern office worker can correct any errors on the computer and then easily send the document to the printer as many times as needed. The evolution of office printers has been dramatic over the past several years. A big decision to make in today's printer market is whether to buy a color wireless printer or a wired printer. The pros and cons of these choices will be discussed in this article.

The color wireless printer has many things to recommend it. The biggest and most obvious advantage is that there are no wires. Wires create a large mess on desks, so having a printer that doesn't use any wires can clean things up quite a bit. Another big advantage is that they can be placed anywhere in the office or home and still be accessible by computers in other rooms or even outside. Connections are easy to establish, so they are extremely reliable. Set up is typically quite simple and easy. Speeding the process even further is the lack of wires needing to be run from the computer to the printer, which can often be the most time consuming part of installing a new printer.

There are some drawbacks to the choice of a non-wired printer as well, however. The wireless signal can sometimes encounter interference from other wireless signals such as mobile phones and microwave ovens. The connection time between the print command being sent by the computer and received by the color wireless printer is longer than it is with a wired connection. In addition, they typically cost more to buy than a regular wired printer.

On the other side of the equation, a wired printer also has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Significantly, the choice of a wired printer means a much faster connection between computer and printer. In addition to speed, the reliability of the connection is greater with a wired printer because all of the outside radio interference is eliminated. Also, service, parts and accessories are less expensive for a wired printer versus a wireless printer. However, a wired printer isn't perfect. The wired connection option is often impractical in today's office. The cables that connect the computers to the printers have a length limitation, usually around 100 feet, before the signal is too weak. Plus, the wiring installation costs can be substantial.

The ease with which office workers or family members can access the printers is another factor to consider when selecting between wired and wireless printers. Although special printer network servers can be installed allowing access of any printer by anyone in either setting, it is sometimes simpler to consider wireless printers as they typically give easier access to users over a simple wi-fi connection.

Hopefully this article has been helpful in clarifying some of the trade offs between printer choices.
