subject: This One Exercise That Will Help You Burn More Fat Than The Treadmill [print this page]

If your idea of working out is hopping on a treadmill for an hour and pounding out a couple miles while watching TV, then you need to step it up a bit! Doing mediocre exercises will give you mediocre results, which you may have already experienced. Use this exercise to burn more fat and build a better body than the treadmill could ever get you.

Weight lifting should be a key part of your diet and exercise plan if you want to lose weight and get in shape. As part of your lifting plan, you should be doing squats. They will ramp up your metabolism and help your body burn off fat even when you're not exercising.

Before you start doing squats though, you better be sure your form is in tip-top shape. Doing this exercise wrong can be hard on your back and your knees.

To do squats right, start with just your body weight and do them in front of a mirror (at the gym or at home is fine at first). Watch your body to be sure that your form is good before you move on to real weight.

Here's how to do good squats:

Stand up straight, then slowly bend your knees and your waist to squat down. Stick your butt out as you go down to accomplish two things: 1. Your back will stay straighter, you should never let your back get hunched while doing squats. 2. Keep your knees back and don't let them go over your toes.

While you squat down, flex your stomach muscles and hold them throughout the exercise, this will become even more essential when you start adding weight. Go down as far as you can without your knees extending past your toes, and without falling over. At the bottom of the exercise your knees should be at a 90 degree angle, never go past this point.

Once you master the squats and do them regularly as part of your weight lifting workout, you'll start to see great results in both toning your legs and burning fat from your whole body.
