subject: The Brilliant Iphone 4 Featuring A Brand New Design [print this page]

Apples previous updates to the iPhone serious have seen some nice, if unspectacular changes occur. The latest addition to the range, the new iPhone 4 however seems to have undertaken some fairly major changes, not least to the design. With other manufacturers improving at an alarming rate, is the new iPhone enough to keep it ahead of the waiting pack?

For the first time since Apple launched the original iPhone, the actual design of the handset has undergone some major changes with the result being a very different yet stylish and desirable look. The changes that we have seen on the iPhone 4 not only enhance the desirability of the phone, but also aid its performance. Take the new antenna for example, not since the early days has this been on the outside of the handset (remember the telescopic affairs you had to extend before making a call?). Apple have not quite returned to this format, but they have fitted a nice look metallic band around the whole handset. Not only does this improve Bluetooth, WiFi and Network reception, but it also adds a touch of class to the design. In a world where phones are continually made of plastic, this makes a refreshing change. Another advantage of this antenna now being external is that the depth of the phone is now reduced to just 9.3mm. The plastic has also vanished from the back of the phone, as has the curved design, in its place is a perfectly flat sheet of glass, exactly the same as the piece found on the front of the phone. Call quality is enhanced thanks to a second microphone being fitted inside the phone, this one performing the job of cancelling out all background noise to give you the best experience possible.

The iPhone 4 boasts a great quality display which is currently the best available on any handset. It is capable of fitting 326 pixel into just one square inch, which exceed what your own eye can actually see. Due to this, Apple have named the display the "Retina" screen. Utilising IPS technology to increase viewing angles and provide deeper colours, the 3.5" screen shows a maximum resolution of 960 x 640. Supporting multi touch, the screen still boast familiar features such as auto rotate and pinch and zoom. In a bid to reduce any accidental pressing of the screen, a proximity sensor shuts the screen down when you take a call, and re opens it the moment you move it away from your face.

Whatever angle you look at it from, the iPhone 4 is a great phone. Style addicts will love the new look, Apple fans will love the feature upgrades, but most importantly phone fans everywhere will appreciate the total package that this great phone offers.
