subject: My New Career In Medical Transcription [print this page] I have had a good career as an RN, but now due to a physical disability I am no longer able to practice and am currently unemployed. I have been looking for a new career. I stumbled across medical transcription. "That's it! I said to myself. How better to use my medical knowledge and love of computers and put them together to have a new career. In the past I have worked with doctors of many nationalities and understand that taking dictation may be difficult, but with my understanding of medical terminology, medications, laboratory tests, and physical assessments, I feel I would be able to do a good job as a medical transcriptionist. I like the fact that I will be able to do my job from home once trained and not have to drive in snowy weather again. I also like the fact that I will be able to work independently and with a very flexible schedule, so I can have a good work/ life balance.
Having a good work/life balance is very important to me and is something I have not had during my career as an RN. With being currently unemployed and looking for a new position, I have found that there is a very limited job market out there. And with my physical disability, the job market becomes even smaller. This is why going back to school is a necessity. I am not one to sit around and do nothing. I am not willing to just go onto disability and let the government pay me to do nothing. I want to work; I need to work to feel like I have accomplished something every day. I like to be keeping very busy and with a new career in Medical Transcription, I can have a good job and feel like I am contributing something to society. And I can earn a good income to support myself without going onto disability. SN:0TG9Y2ESY
My decision to become a Medical Transcriptionist stems from the facts that I love working in the medical field after being a Medical Assistant, a certified nursing assistant and finally a registered nurse. I wanted to find a new career to use all of my previous experience and knowledge. Medical Transcription seemed to be the perfect fit for me. I am looking for a good school where I can become a certified Medical Transcriptionist and gain the experience I need to get started with a good company as soon as I am finished with the classes. I would like to work for a good company for at least 5 years, and then I would like to eventually like to start my own transcription business and work with the local doctors in my surrounding area. All in all, I am writing this essay to get a full scholarship to your program. I feel that I would make a great Medical Transcriptionist and with your help I will be able to fulfill my dream of a new career.
