subject: Issues In Counseling [print this page]

"Kids that are troubled need to undergo counseling. Some common reasons why kids are sent to counseling are given below:

Self esteem issues

Some kids have trouble asserting themselves. They are very easy to sway. They have trouble looking directly to people's eyes.

They often have a difficult time relating to their friends or peers.

They do not hang around with children of their own age. Either they make friends with individuals older than they are or with kids younger than they are. They usually end up fighting with children of their age.

Involved in too much fighting

They don't only fight with their own age but also with younger or older kids. They've so much anger inside them that getting along with others is not in their vocabulary.

Inadequate feelings of failure

They usually have this fear of not being great enough. Because of this, they don't go out and play with others.

Loss and grief

Somebody close to them had died and there's a sense of hopelessness. This can lead to adolescent depression.

Abuse - physical and sexual

This is one of the most damaging to any child. This is because when a child suffers abuse, many issues arise.

They feel alone and lonely

They feel like they don't belong anywhere. They really feel which they have nothing in common with children their age. Occasionally it may be the other way around, the kids groups close to them who are rejecting them.

Problems related to having two cultures

This usually occurs when the parents migrate to another place or country. They have a difficult time balancing the culture of their atmosphere and also the culture that they have at house. Sometimes it's more complicated if the parents have different heritages. For instance, the mother is Puerto Rican and the father is French. So aside from both parents, the child has to deal with the culture of the atmosphere.

Frequent hurting of other kids

They're usually making their playmates cry. These children are just projecting some things which they see in your house. Anger is usually an issue.

School rules are violated

They have issues to people with authority. They can't obey the rules set for them.

They don't do well in school

These kids are not willing to go to school Sometimes they would rather stay at home Or worse, they would make up situations so that they won't be able to go to school.

Anxiety and Depression

They don't wish to go out. They feel tired all the time There's a certain fear that something bad will happen to them if they go out.

Violent or angry outbursts at home or school

They suffer from anger issues. They usually hit the wall with their fists when points do not go their way.

Homeless Kids

They might have been abandoned by parents or guardians.

Being absent all the time

This really is from the point of view of teachers. Those kids who are always absent at school, most likely, have problems at home.

Substance abuse

They're using some substance to create a change of mood. The people surrounding them are also affected, directly or indirectly, by this addiction.

Dealing with divorce

This is because these kids deal with having to lose one parent and they need to adapt to the new situation that has risen because of the divorce.
