subject: Declutter Now - You Can Do It! [print this page]

Having the right mindset when you are attempting to declutter your home and reclaim your space is critical to your success. Most people underestimate the importance of this fact and that is why they get overwhelmed and quit when working to organize their home.

This has been true for me because I end up getting overwhelmed and quitting unless my mind is in the correct mode for fast decluttering and organizing. I hate it when I give up on a project because I get overwhelmed and just sick of trying. What makes all the difference is where my head is at. I have to have the right mindset or I will fail.

A key part of having the right mindset is having the correct goal. You should always set a goal before you attempt to do any decluttering. Make sure your goal is realistic and clear in your mind so you don't get bogged down with details that don't have to be bothered with to reach your goal.

Before you attempt to do any decluttering, pick a goal, (a smaller, easier goal is actually better than a larger goal) and then do not deviate from the necessary steps to accomplish that goal. Resist getting distracted and branching off into other tasks. Keep your eyes on that goal, and nothing else! Don't focus on the whole clutter problem, just worry about getting your one goal accomplished.

Why do I harp on the importance of this so much? Accomplishing a goal, no matter how small it may be, gives you something you can see real positive results in. But more importantly it is a big morale boost for you; it feels great to accomplish goals and motivates you to do more. Little by little, small goal after small goal, you will soon have complete control over your home and your possessions.
