subject: Tips For Saving Money On Your Electricity Bill During The Hot Summer [print this page]

When you really want to save money and energy, it is important to use backup cooling methods in your home. Utah air conditioning units are great for keeping your home cool. However, they do use a lot of energy. Here are a few tips to save money on your next electricity bill.

Use your ceiling fans. Ceiling fans have proven to make the room anywhere from 3 to 8 degrees cooler because it circulates the air around you. The other nice part is that many people can install ceiling fans themselves if they are the type of do-it-yourself individuals.

Be sure that you have the ceiling fan going the right way. You want the air to blow down, and remove the hot air next to you. Check that it is moving counter-clockwise to blow the air down. Some fans have a switch that allows you to change fan directions.

Clean out your Utah air conditioning unit's filter! Utah air conditioning units should have their filters cleaned regularly. Most filters should be cleaned monthly if you want to keep your AC unit from worker harder than it needs to. When your AC unit has to work through a dirty filter you will definitely not be saving any money on your electricity bill.

Take advantage of other people's cooling inventions. The chillow pillow is a pillow that is filled with cold water to keep you cool while you sleep. A lot of people swear by it.

Another nifty invention for sleeping during hot nights is called the Bedfan. If you are like my husband, then this is the perfect choice for you. People who can't sleep with out their covers, even on extremely hot days, can use the bedfan to keep a light breeze going on under the covers of your sheets. That way you are able to still sleep with your covers, but you don't have to run your AC unit to keep you comfortable.

Don't have sunlight seep in your home. A little sunlight should be fine, but on hotter days you don't want to bring too much sunlight inside. Keep your drapes shut in areas where you get direct sunlight on especially hot days.

Don't forget to use the old classic options. Come home, drench your shirt in cold water, and wear your wrung-out shirt. The moisture on the skin should cool you down, especially if you have your fans going in the home. If you're worried about your furniture use a towel for your back.
