Tom Cruise, born as Thomas Cruise Mapother on July 3, 1962, is a great actor and professional producer too. Today, he is certainly proud for having three Golden Globe Awards and three nominations for Academy Awards for his outstanding performances. His first main role was in the film Risky Business, in 1983. This is the base of his successful acting career. However, we are going to talk a little bit later about his successes. For now, we are going to concentrate on his early life.

Tom Cruise being of British and German origin attended the Robert Hopkins Public School where he did most of his studying. Being good at extracurricular activities, Tom Cruise was pretty active in hockey and athletics in his high school days. Playing with a callous attitude, Cruise was injured in a hockey game against British Bulldogs. Being an avid lover of hockey, he always gave his 100% in the arena.

Sidelined by injury, Tom Cruise concentrated on acting for which he had a part in the film Risky Business. That instance opened the door for him in the world of acting. Thus he looked for guidance to help him improve his acting abilities. In 1994, Tom Cruise became part of a star studded movie 'Interview with the Vampire". The film was based on the highly acclaimed novel by Anne Rice. Along with Tom, the movie also starred Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas and Christian Slater.

His next project involved the Mission Impossible movies, where Tom Cruise starred as the main character, Ethan Hunt. The first movie recorded a great success with positive reviews. For his exceptional performance, Tom Cruise received the MTV Music Award. The next movies brought him major commercial successes and critical reviews too. The first one from these commercial movies is Abre Los Ojos, followed by Vanilla Sky and Minority Report. The year 2003 started for Tom Cruise with a drama film named "The Last Samurai". For his superior performance in that movie he received the nomination for Golden Globe and he won it too. War of the Worlds brought revenue of more than $500 million. In the same year, Tom Cruise won two awards, MTV Generation and People's Choice. As well, over the years he also won one Saturn Award.

Four years ago, Tom Cruise received invitation to perform in Mission Impossible III, as Ethan Hunt. The film was not that criticized at the same time turned to be a commercial success. In 2007, Lions for Lambs recorded a huge disappointment, both commercial and critical. In the year 2008, Tom Cruise starred in Tropic Thunder, a great comedy, next to Jack Black and Ben Stiller. For his excellent performance, he was rewarded with the Golden Globe. Another exceptional movie released in 2008 is Valkyrie. This historical thriller movie was a great success.

In the year 2006, Tom Cruise once again performed the role of Ethan Hunt for the third sequel of movie "Mission Impossible". Although the film did fairly well, it did not generate the same success as compared to two previous films. And disappointment again continued in 2007 with the film "Lions for Lambs" which was not received well by both the viewers and critics. However, 2008 produced a turn around for Tom as he starred in the comedy film "Tropic Thunder" along with comedians Jack Black and Ben Stiller. His acting skills earned him another Golden Globe award. He also starred in the movie Valkyrie which was a smash hit. Currently, the newest movie of Tom Cruise is "Knight and Day". The film also starred Cameron Diaz. There were also talks about the "Mission Impossible" part four which will be released in 2011. And who will play Ethan Hunt? Yes! It's Tom Cruise again.
