subject: Pesticides For Your Home Go Organic [print this page]

It is a well known fact that the use of pesticides is a huge health issue. With that in mind people are still using these unhealthy products each and every day, to the tune of a billion pounds a year of dangerous pesticides being used on our food and around our homes.

Even though our food is washed before getting to the grocery store and many people will still rinse the vegetables when they get them home, there are still trace pesticides that people consume, and this is causing some rather large health issues.

It is also causing huge health issues with farmers and farm workers. With over 20,000 pesticide related illnesses reported every year, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, this is really becoming a problem.

Even though farmers and other people who work on farms have more than there share of pesticide related illnesses, peoples pets have even more. According to the Animal Poison Control Center, there are over 30 thousand reports every year of pet poisoning from pesticides.

While commercial grade pesticides cause there share of the trouble, individual people share in the poisoning. By using all those chemical based weed killers or bug sprays you are contributing to the issue. Many people don't even wait until there is an issue and use these chemicals as a preventive product.

Pesticides has been linked to many diseases and health issues like, Parkinson's disease, many different types of cancer and even birth defects. It truly amazes me that people still use chemical type pesticides.

One big problem is that the government doesn't require the same type or standards of testing for home pesticides as they do for commercially grown food. So they can get away with adding "inert ingredients" that have never been tested for possible health issues.

And these chemicals not only harm people, but they also contaminate the air, water and soil. This means that honeybees, butterflies and ladybugs along with fish are threatened with pesticides. One other small fact is that the pesticides you use around your house can and do seep into the water table.

So the best thing that everyone could do is to start using only organic pest control or to hire someone to take care of your pests for you, organically If you care about the planet, yourself or even your children, stop using chemical based pesticides and start saving our planet.
