subject: How To Maintain The Good Look Of Your Guitar [print this page]

Many professional guitar players knew only how to play their guitar. But when it comes to maintaining its good appearance, they're certainly out. They forget to clean it. They don't know the importance of cleanliness for their instrument. Cleaning your guitar is very important especially taking good care of its main parts where the main components for creating tunes and sound are found. In addition, the frets and strings needed a regular maintenance to avoid them from loosing their tune and form.

Here are some tips and suggestions in maintaining the good form of your beloved guitar:

*Polish and clean the fingerboard of your guitar for at least every six months. You may use a soft cloth and apply lemon oil on the bridge and the fingerboard of the guitar. This will keep them from drying out when they are not in use. But always remember; always handle the guitar with care when cleaning it.

*It is important to adjust the truss rod when he changes the string gauge of the guitar. The strings tension may vary if there is a constant change of the climate. The tension tends to tighten if the weather is cold and if the climate is humid, the strings tend to loosen.

*With the use of a little piece of cardboard that will raise the strings vertically; you can adjust the saddle of the guitar. Or you may remove the shims to lower its height.

*You must loosen the strings of your guitar when it is transported. It is very important to pack the peg-head portion of the case with towel or a piece of clothing to protect the body of the guitar from any form of damage.

*You must also maintain the cleanliness of the fret board. The frets must be polished and remove any cloth or lint that remained on the frets when it is packed. This may vary with the type of cloth the owner uses to pack his guitar.

*The owner needs to make sure to snug the tuners just even twice a year. Tuners tend to loosen automatically because they are made of wood or metal that creates contraction at any rates. He/she must be careful not to over tighten the knot to avoid any cracking on the peg-head.

*He must remember that it is not necessary to carry the guitar with his luggage. There are some airlines that will allow a person to carry his guitar along with him on the plane. He should first call the administration of the airport to confirm that they will allow him to carry on his guitar.

A person must take care of his/her instruments. It is very essential for them to take care of the instruments to maintain its good features and its good performance. You're not a good musician if you only know how to play the instrument but you don't know how to take care of them. The good musician knows both; to play the instrument, and to take good care of them.
