subject: Lacrosse Improvement With Lacrosse Walls And The Rising Sport [print this page]

US Lacrosse reports suggested that in 2009, total lacrosse participation included more than 520,000 players, an increase of 8.4 percent from 2008 and more than double the 2001 number. An estimated 265,000 of those players were youths. US Lacrosse membership numbers (those players who are registered) hit 296,743 in 2008, a growth rate of 579 percent since the organizations inception in 1998.

What do all great Lacrosse players from Gary Gait, Mikey Powell to Matt Danowski have in common? They all have completed the magic number of practice hours. Researchers now believe that the magic number of practice hours for one to reign supreme at their task is 10,000 hours. You can guarantee that each one of the great players that are constantly mentioned throughout the lacrosse world have attained that magic number.

The emerging picture now from such studies suggest that that ten thousand hours of practice is required to achieve the level of mastery associated with becoming a world class expert in anything. In case after case of basketball players. chess players, composers, artists and pianists, this number comes up again and again.

The best way to take advantage of this is to be prepared. Achievement is preparation plus opportunity. Practice as much as you can, working on the fundamentals of throwing and catching. For the Lacrosse enthusiasts out west, you are at a disadvantage. The Northeastern U.S is known as the hotbed of lacrosse and they are swallowing up scholarships as young kids are being introduced to the sport very early. Canadians are also coming down to the states for scholarships since they too play Lacrosse, a very physical and skilled one at that too.

10,000 hours is an enormous amount of time to practice and is increasingly hard to dedicate time to with the advent of new technologies, facebook and every other distraction in life. It is only those who have supportive and encouraging parents that facilitate the life of a rising lacrosse star.

This is where practice plays a key role in deciding where your future will lie. Becoming an all-around player gives the best advantage. Playing in tournaments, watching games, listening to coaches and practicing stick skills make the best players.

Continue to hit the Lacrosse Wall to maximum repetitions fine tuning those lacrosse skills for future success in the sport.
