subject: City Breaks [print this page]

If you want to get away for a few days, a city break is a great way to experience new culture, nightlife and food, in just a few days and without breaking the budget.

UK breaks

You don't even have to leave the country to get away from it all - there are loads of great places in the visit in the UK, just a train journey away.

London - The UK's capital is a great place to lose a few days. With thousands of museums, theatres and great places to eat - it's easy to see why its been called a "world in one city".

Bath - A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the historical city of Bath has more listed buildings than any other place in the country, and has been the fashionable haunt of British society for the last 300 years.

Canterbury - Home of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, this historic city is full of old alehouses, medieval alleyways and riverside gardens, with a World Heritage cathedral at its heart.

Edinburgh - Rocky hills overlooking the sea and Edinburgh castle keeping watch, this is a city that oozes history in the Old Town and culture and neoclassical architecture in the New Town - making it a place you'll want to visit again and again.

Breaks abroad

However, if you want to travel further afield, Europe's huge choice of destinations - which are all relatively cheap and easy to get to - make it the perfect choice for a short city break.

The Eurostar, which runs from Kings Cross St Pancras in London has made travel across Europe even easier, getting you to Brussels in less than two hours, Paris in 2hrs 15minutes, and opening up a whole network of European rail networks to British travellers.
