subject: Best Dvds For Children [print this page] In the last decade, animation has become more than just drawings that move, but rather, lifelike 3D characters that are so impressive, children and adults alike marvel at their realistic features.
Alice in Wonderland
The classic tale of Alice in Wonderland has been created by many and the most recent adaptation has been released by Disney. Directed by Tim Burton, this modern day version of Alice in Wonderland still offers all the loveable characters and has an overarching storyline about growing up, being true to ones self and the importance of friendship.
Alternatively, the traditional animated version (also released by Disney) offers far less of the bells and whistles, but still maintains the enchanting story of Alice, The Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, Caterpillar, March Hare, Queen of Hearts, White Rabbit and not to forget, the loveable Door Mouse.
Toy Story
Who would think that such incredible adventures could be had by the toys of one little boy called Andy? Woody, Buzz, Mr Potato Head, Slinky-Dog, Rex, Hamm and Bo-Peep are the toys that come to life when Andy is not around and offer viewers of all ages a good laugh and a feel-good happy ending. While many refer to Toy Story as a childrens movie, many adults also enjoy this film.
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Three chipmunks (cheeky Alvin, geeky Simon and naive Theodore) are discovered by a struggling musician, Dave. From then on, a number of mad-cap adventures and fun ensues, only to show that all three chipmunks and Dave are destined for great success, not to mention friendship.
The Princess and the Frog
Set in the southern states of the USA, New Orleans to be precise, a young girl called Tiana is read the fairytale of The Frog Prince by her mother. Many years later, Tiana is confronted with her own, very similar fairytale and learns that not everything in life is as it appears, which isnt always a bad thing! Patience, generosity and kindness are the underlying tones for this lovely Disney animation.
Fantastic Mr. Fox
From the legendary writer Roald Dahl comes the wonderful tale of Mr. Fox, the naughtiest of characters who simply cannot stop himself from stealing hens, drinking cider or pinching turkeys! With an all star cast including Meryl Streep as Mrs. Fox, George Clooney as the title character, Bill Murray as Badger, Willem Dafoe as Rat and Jason Schwartzman as Ash, this is a great family movie that will be enjoyed by all!
Now, if all of these great DVDs have been enjoyed by your young ones (or young at heart), some others that are great to pop in the player include Glee (season 1), The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus, Snow White or The Little Mermaid.
