subject: Affiliate Marketing Tips - Sorting Fact From Fiction [print this page]

Affiliate marketing is perhaps one of the simpler ways to earn an income online. This article will delve into some of the more common affiliate marketing myths circulating the internet.

A myth that causes many to never even get started is that blogs and websites are technical and hard to maintain. Don't believe this harmful myth, the main "work" is when you add a new post or article, here and there. For example, your blog is based on a dog training eBook you are currently promoting. So, you wrote a few articles or made a few posts for your blog and you are sending traffic to it; you won't have to worry about adding new content unless the product's author decides to make changes to it. Your site can almost run itself, once it is up and has content. Don't be confused and think that you won't have to do any work, you still have to get visitors to your site. After you build your site, getting traffic is something that comes from the outside and is separate from site maintenance. The next myth is something that we have all heard, you can get rich online without spending any money or very little money. Well, if you are looking out to just pay the bills and take care of your basic household expenses, then yes, you can definitely earn that money with affiliate marketing without having to invest anything. But when it comes to making a lot money, then you do need to have an upfront investment ready. Many people will tell you that paid traffic is unnecessary and that you can get all of the traffic that you want for free, but have you noticed that almost all of the people spreading this myth are making little or no money online? Honestly, the only free method that compares to the power of paid traffic is owning your own product and recruiting affiliates and joint venture partners, but even then you still have to pay somebody. So if you do want to get the bigger affiliate checks, then you'll have to buy traffic from these reliable sources. Paid traffic is more targeted than free traffic which will put more money in your account.

One of the most common affiliate marketing myths is that you need thousands of visitors per month to actually make some money.

The amount of traffic does not matter as much as the quality of the traffic. Actually, if you are not putting your efforts into generating targeted traffic then you are fooling yourself in thinking that you are going to make any money with "cold" traffic. Going after sheer numbers of visitors is a mistake that too many affiliates make and a problem that is stopping them from making sales. The key to turning your traffic profitable is simply finding people who are already interested in and in need of what you have. Targeted and interested site visitors is one of the fundamentals of online marketing; one you need to start practicing.

If you are serious about your success as an affiliate then the first thing you need to do is to dispel any myths that will hold you back.
