Vanities and cabinets are the fastest, easiest and most satisfying do-it-yourself bathroom projects that could definitely change the aesthetics of any bath space. Always remember that the materials used for your vanities and cabinets, especially if they are made from wood, are more likely to wear out over the years because of water and chemicals from the bath products you use. In order to prevent damages from affecting your vanities and cabinets, the best thing to do is to repair them immediately when hardware issues arise. However, if they have no damages and you would just like to improve the aesthetic appearance of your bathroom furnishings in order to turn them into modern bathroom cabinets and vanities without spending too much, then the best thing to do is to refurbish or refinish them.

To achieve modern bathroom furniture you would need household cleaner, wash cloth, water, fine grit sandpaper, paint scrape, screwdriver, paintbrush or sponge, water based primer and paint, and new handles. To start with your project, think of a design that would complement your bathroom. Your design choice would affect the color scheme that you would use for your project.

Collect all the things inside and outside of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets, and set them aside for the remainder of the project. After doing this, remove all the doors and drawers of your furniture using your screwdriver, along with the handles of the drawers if you would like to change the handles; doing this would make it easier to clean and paint the hardware pieces. Dilute your household cleaner in water, and using a wash cloth use the solution you made to clean the hardware pieces of your bathroom furnishings. Make sure to clean the surfaces and inside parts of your vanities and cabinets.

Once the pieces of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets are dry, sand their surfaces with the use of fine grit sandpaper to remove previous paint. A paint scraper is a good alternative if fine grit paper could not remove all the previous paint of your furnishings. The rough surface of the hardware, which is the result of sanding, would help the paint to hold properly to the fixture and would avoid chips and bubbles from forming on the surface of your furnishings. Sanding could also remove the bumps from the surface of the hardware.

After sanding the drawers and doors of your contemporary bathroom vanities, wipe away all the excess dust residue using a damp sponge, then set them aside until they dry. For the painting process, the first thing that you should do is to paint the pieces with a thin coat of water-based primer. Once the primer is dry, paint the doors and drawers of your vanities and cabinets with your chosen color scheme using a paintbrush, or if you want to give your furnishings an antique look you could simply combine terracotta latex paint and copper glaze and apply this using a foam roller.

Leave the doors and drawers to dry before you place the new handles. After doing this, reassemble the pieces on their respective places, and give them a quick wipe to remove dust particles. Now, you can enjoy your modern bathroom furniture pieces. With these quick and simple steps, you can update the look of your bathroom furnishings without spending too much.
