subject: Recent Version Of The Dsi R4 [print this page]

Piracy is a huge pertain for the gaming industry these days as it is not limited to the Pc platform, where it received the highest levels, but to almost all platforms, including the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii or the PlayStation Portable. Nintendo's tiny handheld, Dsi R4 made no exception as pirates easily found that inserting an R4 flash card into the first slot was everything you needed to do in order for the Dsi R4 to execute pirated application or homebrew applications.

With the recent version of the Dsi R4, Nintendo targeted at preventing such a phenomenon by removing the slot for the R4 and implementing original firmware upgrades in order to prevent workarounds from being found. And Dsi R4 seems to have worked for 6 months, since it is released in Japan, the device remained free from piracy. But the past is correct now, as Dsi R4 has released the DSONEi, a flash card that can enable the Dsi to execute piracy and homebrew applications seamlessly. In order to save the new firmware version from depromoting this solution, the team at Super card will launch their own workaround, after each new upgrade to the Dsi R4 thus keep moving on things going for those who want to execute pirated or homebrew releases.

Overall, it is fixed that no matter whatever gaming console companies make in order to save their piracy and their systems from being cracked down, people will still find a way around these security measures and make the device execute whatever they want. Let us hope that the next Dsi R4 will be a tougher product to crack for hackers and that it will remain piracy free for a much longer time than the Dsi. Till then Nintendo handheld will look a lot of its gaming sales down by a certain amount in the future.
