subject: Different Ways To Go Camping [print this page]

Not than long ago a backpack, a strong pair of boots and a stout stick was all that was needed to go camping, but in modern times there are many different ways to 'go camping'. You can still get to grips with the great outdoors, it just depends how close to nature you want to be, nowadays everyone is catered for.

Basic Camping. If you feel that your daily routine is getting too hum drum and life is no longer a challenge, then you can still hone your survival skills with just the 'basics', lost to the world and living under the stars for as long as you want. Carry a radio to be sure you can contact the world if you want to, but leave your cellphone behind. If you camp in a remote area it will probably be useless anyway.

Camping Sites. These vary enormously from tent camping sites where there may be only a patch of dirt to pitch your tent on (these tend to be the cheapest) to sites with paved pads, fire rings, barbecue grills, shared bathrooms, utilities and even laundries. For those aiming to make the most of every facility you can dream of away from home, RV options include, air conditioning, bathrooms, kitchens, showers and home theatre systems.

Adventure Camping. A great many people camp because of other activities such as fishing, canoeing, climbing, mountain biking, swimming, white water rafting, hunting etc. and special campsites are being set up to cater for these individual sports, often with hobby related facilities such as Marinas or tackle shops.

Beach Camping grounds. These tend to be centered on the well known beaches and cater for RVs as well as the ordinary camper. They are well worth checking out before you make your mind up on your next camping destination.

Work camping. Is an idea worth looking into. When you are all hooked up you offer your services to the site in return for your rental and perhaps even a little pay. Your job can be to help keep the site tidy etc, teach newbies the ins and outs of good camping, or to organising a fun game after dark so that everyone gets to know one another.

Coach Camping. This is more prevalent in the UK and makes use of some of the grand railway coaches used in the heyday of the old LMS and LNER when carriages were a joy to relax in and the dining cars were an opulent experience on their own. Quite a few of these beautiful coaches have been remodeled, hooked up together as a unit and taken to beautiful parts of the British countryside, where people can 'camp' and dine in luxury.

Historical Camping. How many thousands of historical re-enactors does it take to regain the Wild West or fight the American Civil War? A great deal, but where would they live if it wasn't for camping? Thank goodness someone takes the trouble to keep our history alive and that camping is a part of their personal enjoyment.

Boutique Camping, also called Glamping, posh or comfy camping. At large musical / rock and roll festivals where people just can't be bothered to go to the trouble of putting up a tent, companies deliver accommodation units to the site i.e. tents, bell tents or pod pads, they build them with all mod cons and dismantle them again after the event.

Having said all that about camping grounds, don't forget to take your First Aid Kit and a reliable means of communication like a CB radio. No matter what kind of camping you enjoy, if you are prepared for an emergency you make it much less likely you'll ever have to endure one.
