subject: Learn All About The White Golden Retriever [print this page]

The Golden Retriever is a universally loved and appreciated dog. They can be found in a number of colors or shades, including, but not necessarily, golden. They are often dark brown or red, golden, pale yellow, or even cream colored. It is the lighter, cream colored Golden Retriever, that is referred to as the White Golden Retriever. They really are not, 100% pure white, but they are still absolutely gorgeous.

If you see a golden retriever that is 100% white, it is generally considered to not be pure bred. But, pureness of breed is not an exact science, and there are differences between varying cultures and countries.

For example, kennel clubs have dog shows. They only allow the purest of bred dogs to enter. The European Kennel Club (EKC) allows Golden Retrievers that are creme colored, in their shows, along with the traditional golden colored Retrievers. The American Kennel Club (AKC) only allows golden colored Golden Retrievers in their shows. Both clubs disallow the darker brown and red colored ones, since they are not considered to be pure enough.

A Golden Retriever with lighter colored eyes is a good thing in the AKC shows, but points are deducted for the same attribute in the EKC. Are you confused yet? It gets better. Many of the same dogs that are not pure enough to be in the shows, will still get registered at the kennels as pure bred, and authentication papers will be provided.

It has been said, by any number of critics, that these papers are at their most valuable when they are used on the floor, for house breaking purposes. The sad truth is, many sick puppies are created by the inbreeding that is required for breeding pure bred dogs.

In the rush to authenticate dogs as being purely bred, these registry organizations are part of a system that creates puppies that are doomed to sickly, painful and short lives. The dog owners will spend a lot of time and cash in an effort to prolong their lives. At the same time, millions of dogs that would make wonderful pets, get sentenced to death annually, for the crime of not being pure breeds, including some of those pure white Golden Retrievers.

White Golden Retrievers hail from Britain, and they are increasing in numbers in the United States. They have a number of physical differences with their American cousins, besides their color. They have thicker bodies with shorter legs. There heads are shaped more block-like.

Their coat is thicker, but the hair is not nearly as long. They were originally bred to make the ideal hunting dog, and to be able to deal with the cold. Their ears are lower than America Golden Retrievers & their eyes are darker. They go by a lot of names, other than White Golden. They are called, Platinum, Platinum Blond Golden, Light Golden, English Cream Golden, European Golden, British Creme Golden, Blond Golden, and English Golden.

The differences go no further than a few slight physical variations. As far as the demeanor and personality, the White Golden Retriever is just like all the other types. They are very smart, and they enjoy being around people and other animals. They are great with kids and they love to please. Either indoors or outdoors, they adapt to their environments.
