subject: Denver Broncos Tickets - Tebow Finally Signs Contract [print this page] Whenever training camp draws closer, it is a looming deadline for new draft choices and franchises who want to sign them. Holding out in the days leading up to training camp can often mean a much more fortuitous deal for rookies, which is why so many of them use this technique. The Denver Broncos' first-round pick from 2010 and Heisman Trophy winner, quarterback Tim Tebow, was holding out for a contract, but he finally signed just days before training camp. According to the Canadian Press, the star from the University of Florida landed a five-year contract worth $11.25 million with $8.7 million guaranteed. The incentives in his contract mean he could earn up to $33 million.
In addition to his deal with the Broncos, Tebow has another source of income. He has signed a multi-year contract to be a spokesperson for Jockey International, Inc. The star quarterback will appear in the company's print ads, television ads, online at jockey.com and elsewhere. He will also work with Jockey's "Staycool" collection, which is set to be released in 2011. Jockey's press release on the contract quoted Jockey Chairman and CEO Debra S. Waller as saying Tebow is "a highly gifted athlete with a positive attitude and an admirable character."
Although he probably isn't reaping the benefits, Tebow also made the money news because of sales of his Broncos jersey. From April 1, 2010 to June 30, 2010, Tim Tebow's Jersey was the top selling player jersey on NFLShop.com. Those with Denver Broncos tickets for this season inevitably helped push the sales of Tebow's jersey to the top.
Interestingly enough, quarterbacks were the top six sellers during that time. Tebow beat out Washington Redskins' Donovan McNabb, New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees (Super Bowl MVP), Indianapolis Colts' Peyton Manning, Dallas Cowboys' Tony Romo and Minnesota Vikings' Brett Favre. The next highest selling rookie is Detroit Lions' Ndamukong Suh, who was eighth on the list. St. Louis Rams' rookie quarterback Sam Bradford was ninth on the list.
Tebow will have a former Bronco great to learn from, because former Broncos quarterback John Elway is working with the team this year. Elway spoke to ESPN.com about his life, golf and the Broncos and had positive words to say about Tebow. Unlike some analysts, Elway doesn't think the team should worry about the rookie's release. Instead, Elway said that Tebow will be able to excel and learn as a Bronco.
Another Denver Bronco favorite didn't have to hold out to earn a lucrative contract. Without much fanfare, linebacker Elvis Dumervil secured a new longer deal with the Broncos. The contract secures him through 2015 and is worth $61.5 million with more than $43 million in guaranteed money. Dumervil has been with the Broncos since he was chosen in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He worked his way to a starting spot by his second season. Last year, he started 14 out of the 16 games he played in and tallied 49 tackles, 17 sacks (the most in the league), three passes defended and four forced fumbles. The totals made him an easy selection to the Pro Bowl last season, his first such selection.
