subject: Low Blood Pressure And Its Symptoms [print this page] What is Blood pressure? What is Blood pressure?
The heart pumps blood around the body continuously to supply nutrients and oxygen for energy. Blood that is low in oxygen is pumped towards the lungs, where oxygen is loaded. This pumping of blood generates a pressure called as blood pressure.
Blood pressure is normally indicated by 2 numbers, diastolic over systolic for example 120/80. 80 is diastolic pressure and 120 is systolic pressure.
Systolic blood pressure
Systolic pressure - the maximum blood pressure generated when the heart contracts, which occurs when the left ventricle of the heart contracts.
Diastolic blood pressure
Diastolic pressure - the minimum blood pressure generated when the heart rests, which occurs when the heart dilated before it contract again.
Low blood pressure reading
Blood pressure is considered as low when the systolic blood pressure is lower than 90 and diastolic blood pressure lower than 60mmHg.
If any one of the systolic or diastolic blood pressure is lower than required then it is called as low blood pressure or hypotension or hypotensive.
Blood pressure reading
Blood pressure can fluctuate by as much as 30 or 40 mmHg it will be at its lowest point during asleep or resting. Blood pressure is at its highest when physically active, very stressed or anxious. So it is wise to take blood pressure reading many times at different days to confirm the low blood pressure.
Low blood pressure symptoms
If the blood pressure is lower than normal then there is poor blood circulation, so low or no supply of nutrients and oxygen to extreme parts of the body. Low energy level causes many annoying low blood pressure or hypotension symptoms they are:
Blurred vision,
Cold, clammy, pale skin,
Dizziness,
Fainting,
Fatigue,
Nausea,
Palpitations,
Rapid, shallow breathing and
Depression
All the above said symptoms are annoying and prevent us to perform our regular duties, also in many times it may cause injuries. So it is must to have treatment at least to avoid the low blood pressure symptoms.
