subject: How About A New Mirror That Makes Everything Look Better? [print this page] Have you ever known a woman who couldn't pass a mirror without having at least a quick look? I guess some guys do this too but women generally seem somewhat more attentive to their personal appearance. For these people, a nice, big mirror is a must-have item. The question is, which mirror is best for your place?
There are lots of mirrors to choose from and they come in every conceivable price range. Some hang on the wall or door and some stand on the floor. You can find plain, full-sized ones for less than twenty dollars or spend thousands (and more) on something fancy and ornate. All should deliver a fairly accurate reflection and be easy to install and use (although all aren't).
If you happen to live in a small space your best option could be an over the door mirror. Renters will appreciate how easy these mirrors are to install and remove when moving out. Wall mirrors are often heavier in weight and require substantial screws or clips to hold them in place. Sometimes this can leave holes or marks that will need to be repaired when vacating the premises.
Door mirrors are typically lightweight and simple to install. They're also quite inexpensive to buy, making them a good choice for the budget constrained. If installed at the proper height they should also allow you to view your entire reflection, from stem to stern.
If your home has a fireplace you might consider adding an overmantle mirror to not only brighten up the room but also give the illusion of a larger space. Decorating the area above the mantle can sometimes present a challenge. Some will display several pictures in this area or one, larger single picture or portrait.
Mirrors for above the mantle come in a variety of configurations. The triptych design has always been particularly popular for this application. This consists of three separate mirror surfaces often hinged together but sometimes three distinct pieces in a matched set. Most mirrors placed above a mantle are rectangular but many other shapes are also available.
A freestanding, adjustable mirror is another popular choice, typically for a bedroom or an entryway. This design requires some free floor space in order to use and isn't the best choice for those without extra living area. For those in cramped quarters a door-mounted unit is usually the best bet.
