subject: What Are Virtual Leased Lines? [print this page]

Virtual Leased lines are lines of telecommunication, which are connected at different locations; they guarantee fast connectivity from one location to another. In some places and United Kingdom, leased lines are also known by the names like Private circuits, and data lines. Sides of virtual leased lines are connected with each other; they do not have telephone numbers. Leased virtual lines are widely used for telephone services, internet services and data services et cetera.

The virtual leased line can be used for transfer of telephonic data as well as internet-based data. The virtual leased line is basically used to connect two locations much like the ordinary leased line. There are many different speed options available for the customer to choose from, and the customer can choose the data speed that caters to his/her need. One can get the speed from the lowest 64 kbps to a highest of 512 kbps.

Users have to pay the rental fee once in a year, whereas no connectivity charges have to be paid. As compared to ADSL and SDSL, leased lines are much more costly. Due to 24 hours services and support, they are still availed by many people, and businesses when it comes to effective communication in order to operate business effectively.

In the United Kingdom, they are also referred to as Private Circuits or Data Lines. Although leased lines sometimes use DSL connections to transfer data from one location to another, they are much faster than pure DSL connections, as they use multiple types of connectivity solutions in conjunction with each other to achieve high speed data transfer.

When virtual leased lines are installed between two places, it helps in sharing data with a great ease, and comfort. Data sharing increases the efficiency of the business, or internal communication can be updated between two branches of a company at different locations. With the help of leased line information, or data can be exchanged between organisations at different locations, or at same location. Connectivity is an important aspect, which is offered to uplift staff members in the same office, or different offices.

Bandwidth for leased lines is highly flexible, and starting from 2Mb, it can go as high as 155Mb or even higher in some cases, thus, providing guaranteed high speed data transfer. For large organisations, leased lines are the best mode for internet access because due to high speed data transfer, several users can use the internet at the same time, without experiencing any lags or slowdowns in transfer speeds.

In last two decades leased lines have played an important role in improvising the effectiveness of companies. Call centres are highly dependable on leased lines where connectivity really matters. Large business organisations are availing its services as cheap and effective communication can take place without any difficulty. It allows business to progress by providing quality of transmission.

Still, the speed and efficiency level of the virtual leased line is much higher than the DSL or dial up connection, and as a result, many people and organisations choose this system.
