Summertime for a lot of parents means getting to spend quality time with their young children that they wouldnt normally have. With nicer weather they can take trips to the beach, go to the park, play in the pool, ride bikes, or just go for walks. But when the weather is so hot that the local weatherman puts out a heat advisory, then parents and children are limited to activities that are either in a pool or at home. As most people dont have everyday access to a pool, parents need to get creative. One way to spend quality and still entertaining time with your child is to stay at home and watch educational kids shows and movies together on satellite tv. Some of most creative, interactive and fun childrens shows can be found in your local satellite tv listings.

Dora the Explorer, for example is a great animated show that helps to teach your child Spanish. The shows is interactive every step of the way and as the lead character, Dora, is always asking for help to solve problems. You and your child can work together, from the cool comfort of your air conditioned home to help Dora find her way. For the little boys in your life, she also has a male counterpart named Diego, who also needs help finding his way through the episode.

Another timeless classic to watch with young children is Sesame Street, currently in its 41st season, it is the longest running childrens show in history. With such a long history, remarkably it has managed to stay current and entertaining for children, and also hip enough for parents to also enjoy. This show really built the foundation for classic educational programming for children. With satellite tv you can watch any of the older seasons or you can watch the most current. It would be interesting for parents to see how far the show has come, and also interesting to see how your children may relate to an d interact with the seasons differently.

A new childrens show that is catching the attention of audiences young and old alike is Yo Gabba Gabba. This show may at first seem like a spin-off or copycat of Teletubbies at first glance by the oddly shaped and colored characters, but after just one episode youll see its got its own allure. Or kids, it offers relevant life themes, fun original songs, and makes them get up and dance with their tagline sequence of children dancing. For adults, its much more interesting than Teletubbies as it has really hip music, and often has celebrity guest stars and bands that play on the show. Recent episodes have featured Jack Black, Elijah Wood, Weird Al Yankovic, Weezer, Solange Knowles, Mos Def, Feist and more.

Overall, the genre of childrens television programming is growing, and becoming more keen to the fact that most kids are watching alongside parents who dont want to hear the same songs and see the same core episodes over and over again. More and more shows are being created with parents also in mind. So check your local satellite tv listings and see what hip new kids shows you and your children can enjoy together on the days where it is much too hot to venture outside.
