subject: The Best Sports To Watch On Satellite Tv [print this page]

Watching sports is one of Americans favorite pastimes. Whether you are with family or friends, gathering around a television and cheering for your home team is about as fun as it gets. In playoffs seasons you can make watching the game into a total party buying beer, making appetizers, throwing some steaks on the grill and inviting over a bunch of your buddies to come hang out and watch the big match on your brand new high definition television. And now that you have your comprehensive satellite TV package, your options for watching sporting events have massively exploded. No longer are you stuck watching the one game of pigskin that your local network is playing. Now you can see games from across the country and around the world, of games as American as baseball and as obscure as curling or luge. So now that you have so many options, what are the best sports to watch on TV these days?

1. Tennis

Since the days of Billie Jean King and John McEnroe to the modern-day supremacy of the Williams sisters and Andy Roddick, this game has constantly rise in popularity in the United States. With a number of formidable stars and a game that is relatively easy to understand for the casual viewer, tennis is quickly becoming a very American sport. It doesnt hurt that more Americans are enjoying playing tennis than ever, largely because it is a game that one can play into old age, requiring only 2-4 players and minimal equipment. Though many important tennis events like Wimbledon and the French Open are held in far-off time zones, broadcasting stateside at odd hours like 4am, the ability to record programs on DVR devices has also contributed to tennis popularity, allowing fans to watch important matches at their convenience instead of having to set their alarms! Tennis is also possibly the only professional sport that has as many female stars as male ones, which may make it appeal to younger viewers who are interested in the athletic accomplishments of both sexes.

2. College basketball

March Madness has always attracted many American viewers to the college basketball championships, with otherwise reasonable people gambling their money away in betting pools! But satellite TV allows you to watch the game throughout the year, featuring games from universities around the country as they happen. College basketball can be more fun to watch than the NBA for many viewers because it is less about the ego of certain stars like Kobe Bryant and Lebron James and more about teamwork, spirit, and coordination. This is one of the many reasons that collegiate athletics in general can appeal to those who are sick of the celebrity personalities that have come to dominate professional leagues like the NBA in recent years.

3. Soccer

This is another game that has risen in popularity in recent years. Now that so many American kids are playing soccer or football to everyone else around the world they are growing up to enjoy watching it on TV as well. Though the U.S. team did not make it beyond the quarter finals in this World Cup, many regional teams are quite excellent, and their matches can make for electrifying TV!
