subject: Understanding Many Methods Of Carpet Cleaning [print this page]

When it's time for carpet cleaning there are several ways to approach this. You can either hire a professional or do it yourself. The basic methods for getting your carpets clean are steam only, what is called steam cleaning, with hot water and chemical cleaners, foam cleaning, the dry powder method and the "bonnet" method

If you are considering using a professional service, check out the company and the services each one offers. Ask what method will they use and compare prices. Find out if they move the furniture or will you be expected to have all the furniture out of the room that will be cleaned?

If someone in the family has allergies, steam is the only good choice. Steam will kill most allergens hidden in your carpet. It's not however recommended for wool carpets due to the high heat. The drying time is short, so you will be able to use the room in no time.

With the steam cleaning machines, hot water, and cleaners are mixed, applied by machine on the carpet and then the dirty water and cleaning solution is vacuum up by the machine. This method takes the most of all methods to dry, is good for all carpet types, except for wool.

Cleaning with foam, dry powders or crystals eliminate drying time. Distribute the powder, foam or crystals on the carpet, brush by hand or machine and then vacuum up dirt along with the cleaning agent. Great for wool fiber carpets as well as any other carpet fibers.

The Bonnet method uses cleaning solution sprayed on the carpet and a cotton or cotton blend bonnet placed on a rotary machine. The dirt and solution is absorbed by the spinning bonnet and the bonnet is changed when as it become wet and dirty. There is a short drying time for this method and several clean bonnets need to be available in order to finish the cleaning.

With all carpet cleaning methods, thoroughly vacuuming is a must. Dancing and vacuuming your way through a album of the favorite music can take the boredom out of the time it may take to vacuum before carpet cleaning. The best way to cut down cleaning time is to take care of spills and stains as the happen. Knowing the stain can help, different stain removal with different stains. Find out if the kids used the carpet as a painting canvas, or if cat couldn't find the little box.

Carpet cleaning can be so rewarding, follow some rules and you will have a new looking and great smelling carpet in no time.
