subject: Smart And Professional At All Times [print this page]

People make judgments based on appearances first, it is sad but something we all do and although this impression can quickly be changed when you talk to someone, that first impression will be forever etched in your memory and that is why people place such importance on aesthetics. First appearances are even more important when it comes to business, meeting customers and being the face of the company and that is why dress codes and uniforms are so important. This is also true from a safety point of view and for promoting your companys views on green and ethical issues, so if you are a business owner, no matter how big or small, it is worth considering all the things that a uniform represents.

People should be smart and professional at all times, following dress codes but also what is deemed right and appropriate in their industry or environment; for example it clearly wouldnt be appropriate for a builder to wear a suit to work or for an office worker to wear a tracksuit but whatever profession you are a part of, you can wear appropriate clothing but still be smart and professional at all times. As a builder or workman of any kind there are obviously many health and safety rules and regulations to follow and these include being safe and visible on the building site or in the warehouse at all times. Hi Vis jackets and trousers allow you to be warm, dry and visible and in uniform to show that you are part of a team and so that you and your colleagues look the same, stand for the same things, represent the same values and work as a cohesive unit.

The same goes for companies who wish to promote fairtrade, whether this is with regards to food, clothing or goods. Companies who merely dance to the ethical and fairtrade tune but dont really believe in it will be caught out if for example their staff dont share the same values in terms of what they wear to work or what they buy themselves, fairtrade is a fast becoming a lifestyle choice. That is why fairtrade clothing has become such big business and rightly so and when it comes to uniforms, it is a great unique selling point for any business and something that can be sustainable. So all companies big and small should be chanting the mantra that staff should be smart and professional at all times.
